[Felvtalk] Junior jr.

2008-09-02 Thread Sally Davis
Today when I got home from work there were some girls out playing in the
road. They came over to pet my friendly cat. One of them saw JJ and said he
looked like their cat Goldie who ran away. Well if they live at the house I
think they do I always suspected that that is where JJ came from he was left
in a box on our truck with another young cat and a note saying take care of
us. They have another cat now. I hope it is fixed, I do not need anymore
presents like that.

It has always been my experience that a new cat arrives before one leaves
this earth. I know with some it is the other way around.

oh, sally, i am so sorry to hear this news.

i don't really have anything to say that everyone else hasn't said already:
junior knew how much you loved him and fought for him, and i truly believe
that they don't mind the process involved with leaving this live nearly as
much as we do--i think they understand far more about the cycles than we do.

he came to you because he needed you for that last year and a half--just as
you came to this list, as sad as it sometimes seems to be. we're all here to
teach one another--the cats more than the people, i often think.

GLOW to heal your heart; junior is off having a great time in his brand-new,
healthy, young body, catching up with old friends and making new ones.

thank you for loving him, and for sharing his life with us.

Re: Junior

2008-03-15 Thread Sally Davis
Thanks,

This group is the reason Junior had the last year and a half. He thanks you
all for that. His quality of life was good up until that last day. Sure he
had his share of URI and the corneal ulcer, but all that was treatable. This
last thing while maybe treatable would have been very poor quality of life.
He was ready to go. I would never have been ready for him to leave. I just
realized today that I still have a half sister to Junior. Same mother from a
litter a year before he was born. She is 7 now and very healthy. She cannot
stand me :-).

I will post more later. Also my sister decided she did not have to make a
decision about her felk cat today. I am so happy.

HI Kerry

Thanks you for the hugs. My head knows Junior is happy and whole. My heart
is broken. His roomate spike just jumped up on my lap to let me know she is
a love kitty.

When I first joined this group I almost had to leave it seemed like someone
baby was passing away all the time. It hurt so much to think about it. I
knew I had to stay because I learned so much. Junior lasted a year and a
half. I consider that a gift. To all you presently fighting the disease it
is worth the rollercoaster you may be on. You never know your kitty may be
the one to live a long happy life you have to give him/her that chance.

Junior is six this year.

Thanks for your kind thoughts. You are one of the ones that encouraged my in
the beginning to fight this. Your help got Junior on Transfer Factor which I
fell helped him over the hump. In the end he was taking L lysine and high

Caroline,

I am Junior is happy to have such and honourable escort in Brumley. Junior
has had some journey. I will be lost without him. He asked for nothing from
me and gave so much. Every day when I got home from work he would come out
of the bedroom looking for me. Of course he wanted food but I always knew
that was a good sign. His food today is still on the counter. I cannot give
it to anyone else bc his metacam is in it. I bet he already had a better
meal on the other side.

Thanks,

bravest thing anyone can do, let go. I commend you for being able to give him

Hi Lance and all you great parents,

Junior took his last breath at the vet's today with assistance. I would like
to say it went well, but his body was shutting down. The sedative did not calm
him. I called the vet back into the room to go ahead and stop his misery. His
veins were not cooperating. She had to stick him 4 times that last time she got
a smaller needle.(Not her fault, it was the end).

Junior had a heart murmur and that is what was going on. I was not going to

Re: Junior

2008-03-14 Thread Sally Davis
Hi I just got more bad news. This time it is from my sister.

A stray cat adopted her and finally decided to trust her. He is now her cat.
She told me today that he was acting lethargic and had been so for the past
couple of day. I told her she needed to get him to the vet. She had never
had him in a carrier and was worried she would not be able to do so.

Well she took him to the vet, not her usual vet. She said they did blood
work. The vet was real nice even told her he liked cats a lot. Now for the
bomb the cat is FELV positive. She had already had told the vet Junior's
story. She said he gave her all the options including possible euthanasia.
He said that did not have to be done right away. For now the cat is home
with her. Slinky has become part of her family her cat chasing dogs have
accepted him. The vet gave her clavamox and fluids. She said the cat was
eating and appeared to be feeling better. They did not get a good temp,
estmated at 104-105. So now I ask for prayers for slinky. He will have to be
neutered when he is better. She lives in CA in Manteca. She wants to move
back to VA in the next year. She is worried about that. I told her not to
worry about things to come.

If Junior had not passed Slinky may have gotten worse. This way she got
Slinky to the vet right away.

I figure that in people years I got another 10 years from Junior. Too bad it
was short years for me. They were mostly good except for all the worrying.

I am here to share what I have learned.

Junior/Pewter

2007-09-28 Thread Sally Davis
Hi Folks,

Today Pewter got her booster shots for as they call it distemper feline
leukemia, and rabies. SHe manages to get in my rrom with regularity. This is
where I keep Junior my FELV+ kitty.

Next week is the one year anniversary of his positive test. He had a rough
go of it until January. Finally I got him where he was stable and w/o pain.
That in itself is controversial, so I won't go there. We make choices about
quality of life for our babies and junior is better w/o pain and he is on a
medicine that could cause problems later.

While at the vet I had to get Revolution for some of the cats (OUCH). Pewter
had ear mites when I got her. She was treated for them on her first visit.
Junior has them now, but I think it is because they switched rooms. It is
amazing that little critters you cannot see are crawling on your bedding.
I also got Junior Baytril the URI is going on 5 weeks maybe more. And
though he still eats well he seems like he was having a problem getting
comfortable last night, due to the congestion. He did a round of Amoxicillin
that he finished off over a week ago.

That is about it for the update.

2007-07-27 Thread Jane Lyons

Thanks Sally
Your website is just great and Junior, an absolute love.
He looks so chunky and healthy.
I'm discovering that we have some really good days and then
some punk ones for no apparent reason.
My vet has been researching a homeopathic remedy that is now
being used in Africa for HIV/Aids patients with some dramatic
success. She thought that we should get it for MeMe, a long shot,
but worth a try. I found it in England and am waiting for it to arrive.
I do believe in miracles, so fingers crossed for all of us.

Thanks for all the good information Sally.

LONG POST
Jane,

Hmm long version or short version. I see no way to tell his story as a
short version.

Ok first of all March 2006 I adopted two cats same day one from a
shelter and the other from someone I work with. I had lost my soulmate
kitty the week before from bone cancer. I cried again today for all
the kitties lost last year.

Lionel was the shelter cat unneutered male, with a bite wound from a
fight with a raccoon, so I was told. This was animal control he had
been there a month. Second was a kitten about 4 months old I would
guess. Both cats were orange tabbies, one of my favorite color cats.
Both got neutered the next day at a low cost clinic. Just rabies shots
were given. Lionel had had some shots but I was not sure which ones.

I noticed after getting Lionel back from the clinic he has a broken
leg. It was an old break and had healed but worried me. It did not
seem to bother him but the wound on his leg did. It just would not
heal. I tried getting him to the vet, but my vet was down by two vets
and unable to see clients on short notice. I gave up treated the wound
myself and it finally healed in about a month. So then he would have
had it two months. He also had runny eye which with a good diet
cleared up. Pumpkin seemed fine.

April 2006 Junior is hit by a car. I found him hiding took him to the
only vet I could get in to see. They were wonderful, but expensive. Of
course the first thing she did was test him for FeLV and FIV, both
negative. He was there a week she managed to get his jaw back in place
and stitched his palette back together. He came home would not eat or
drink. i took him back the following Monday. They gave him fluids and
kept him for the day. He also had damaged his eye and wound up with no
sight in it.

OK about a month later, soory my timetable is hazy. Tiny got sick with
a bad URI. Coughed so hard he fell over. HE went into the same vet got
on antibiotics and got better. Pumpkin Lionel both had symtoms of the
URI. Neither were bad enough to take in  to see the vet. I am guessing
this URI was accompanied my the FELV virus as these are the cats who
were later to be identified as infected. By AUgust, junior was just
not feeling good and had the 'cold' as well. I took him in knowing he
was still healing. He was put on Amoxilcillin. It was not working so I
took im back thye found heinm to be anemic figured it might be
hemobartella as he had a tiny bot of flea dirt. He has been inside
since he was hit, so had to picked up the flea from another cat. The
Baytril made him feel much better, but Pumpkin was puny. I gave Pumkin
Juniors axoxicillin. He slept most of the time. Realize I am paniced
about Junior because of the car accident. I did not see Pumpkin was
not eating or drinking. He would pretend to do so.

Pumkin got worse, and I was able to get him into my old vet. The vet
said he was anemic and jaundiced.I am on a very fast learning curve
here. I have gone years without a sick cat. The vet said bring him
back the following Monday if he was not better. He really looked bad.
He went back on Monday he had not really eaten and I could not get him
to eat. They kept him put him on Iv and baytril by IV. I saw him the
next day. The vet was guarded but he looked like his old self.
Loved me purred. The next day I went to see him like 12 hours later.
He was half dead. He crashed during the night had seizures and was
lifeless did not know I was there. I decided the humane thing was pts.
I cried the vet tech cried. It was all so sad. He was not even a year
old.

I decided even though Junior is not acting ill to take him back into
his vet . He was acting sick but had a fever of 106.5. They gave him
subQ fluids and called me later to run the Felv test again. My heart
sunk, I knew somehow it would be positive and so it was, They did not
suggest euthanizing until later, Because he kept getting fevers. They
said it was from the FELV.

I had to get 9 more cat tested and vaccinated. Two more were positive
Tiny (faint pos) and Lionel for FELV and FIV. I believe based on his
history he was FIv when I got him I think he became FELV after he came
to live here. Unfortunately I decided to have lionel pts. He had also
been sick and most likely had

a good day for Junior and me

2007-07-04 Thread Sally Davis

It has been a year since Junior has been outside other than going to the vet
(doesn't count). I blocked off part of the deck so we could enjoy the
wonderful weather we are having, It turns hot in a couple of days. Junior
seemed to enjoy it. I think a happy cat will help keep him healthy. Just a
small think I can do for him. I am on vacation this week and trying to to
think about work.

There is another hungry looking cat hanging around my house. Probably
related to Junior and Tiny. I have what I call balance of puttycats. I am
actually down a cat or two, but not looking for more. If this cats decides
to stay, then I guess I will have one more. Silver showed up this way, he is
now a very fat happy cat.

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY everyone.

Hi Everyone

Yesterday was a very good day for Junior. Actually he has been
doing well for over two weeks. After a 1 month course of Baytril, I
put him on Metacam for pain and inflammation. What a difference a
week can make. He is like a kitten again. I never thought I would
see him feeling so well. I did not want to say anything before now.
I wanted to make sure it was real.

He stays in Eric's room, because he does not want to be around the
other cats. He now likes to venture out a bit and explore. Ok for
the real good news, his vision is better. He can see close up
again. Eric discovered this and had to show me. Now I am sure it is
not great vision, but I guess the inflammation was causing part of
his blindness. Junior is good therapy for Eric. Eric is suffering
from some yet undiagnosed neuromuscular disease. Probably
autoimmune in nature. Lately he has been in a lot of pain and is

Update Junior

2007-04-27 Thread Sally Davis

Hi Everyone

Yesterday was a very good day for Junior. Actually he has been doing well
for over two weeks. After a 1 month course of Baytril, I put him on Metacam
for pain and inflammation. What a difference a week can make. He is like a
kitten again. I never thought I would see him feeling so well. I did not
want to say anything before now. I wanted to make sure it was real.

He stays in Eric's room, because he does not want to be around the other
cats. He now likes to venture out a bit and explore. Ok for the real good
news, his vision is better. He can see close up again. Eric discovered this
and had to show me. Now I am sure it is not great vision, but I guess the
inflammation was causing part of his blindness. Junior is good therapy for
Eric. Eric is suffering from some yet undiagnosed neuromuscular disease.
Probably autoimmune in nature. Lately he has been in a lot of pain and is
very week in his legs. Junior provides comfort and support for Eric while I
am at work. I guess you could say he is a therapy cat, at least for Eric he
is.

I just thought I would share the good news.

Hi Tonya,

The swelling in the lymph nodes has gone down. so I guess it was infection
after all. Still not sure where it originated. The most swelling was on his
left side. I do not think his teeth are involved. This is just another

Junior update-not Lymphoma

2007-03-19 Thread Sally Davis

Hi Everyone

I called the vet today regarding the needle aspiration of the lymph nodes.
She is confident that it is not Lymphoma.

He has fatty tissue and nutrophils indicating inflammation from infection.
The Baytril will help with the infection. She gave him a months supply. I
reordered his Transfer Factor Plus. I think that has helped keep him stable.

I must say Junior is quite the fighter. His lymph node behind his ear has
been swollen for a while. The swelling would usually go down at night. He
seems to has less sight than before. Most of the swelling is on the side of
the good eye. I am hoping his lack of sight is temporary.

The Matacam, she would only give twice a week and would be given to further
reduce inflammation and pain. She wants to give the Baytril time to work
before possibly using the Metacam.

I feel better that Junior has seen Dr Staunton.

Thanks for all your prayers and help. The Fight goes on….

Re: Junior tests

2007-03-14 Thread Sally Davis

Thanks kelly and everyone for your encouragement. I think the other vet was
going on the assumption that Junior's lymph system was doing it's job. I
pray that is the case. HI glands have been swollen for about 8 weeks. He
seems to have some pain near his left ear.

He still eats well although his coat has not looked good since he was dx.
This actually goes back to when he was hit by a car. I think maybe it is not
so easy for him to groom himself.

My bf was feeling bad yesterday and lashed out on me for caring more about
the cats than him. It is hard to keep a balance. Junior is actually his cat.
Men are not good at showing emotions. He is very hurt by Junior's illness. I
said b4 he lost two Himalayan cats to this horrible disease. It must have
come from the cattery where he got the kitten.

Sincere thanks

Sally and Junior

2007-03-09 Thread Nina

Hi Sally,
I don't understand why your vet would suggest a wait and see approach
with a felv pos cat. Aggressive, immediate vet care is always something
that I recommend for all felv positive kitties. Their immune systems
are weakened and don't work as efficiently as cats without the virus.
Expecting that Junior's immune response will be enough to combat swollen
lymph nodes of unknown origin seems foolhardy and down right dangerous
to me. As far as further vaccinations... I wouldn't even consider
inoculating Junior for ANYTHING. If it were me, I wouldn't consider
inoculating Junior EVER. I may have my facts wrong, but it seems he's
been fighting infections since you joined the list, he doesn't need the
stress of vaccinations added to whatever else is going on with him. I'm
very pleased to hear he has gained back his weight, that's wonderful
news. You do have to figure out why his lymph nodes are still swollen
though. If you can afford it, I'd take him to a board certified
internist, a specialist that might be able to get to the bottom of his
problems and help him get better. I'd ask Dr. Staunton, (since this
seems to be the vet you trust), for a referral asap. My prayers are
with you guys,

Nina

Ok for the rest of the group, Junior got back from the vet today. I
was so hoping to see Dr. Staunton, but she took the week off. Dr
Larrick is good but very conservative. Junior has swollen lymph nodes
behind his ears and his back legs. Junior otherwise is stable. The Dr
suggest we wait and see because his weight is good and no other
symptoms. He said the lymph system may be doing what it is supposed to
do fight infection. I decided against further vaccinations. What do
yall think. Money is always an issue. He is on a good diet he gained
back the weight he lost, he gets Petinic, CoQ10, lysine and Transfer
Factor Plus. This has seemed to stabilize him.

Thanks,

Sally

Re: Sally and Junior

2007-03-09 Thread Sally Davis

Hi Nina,

I wish Dr Staunton had been there today. I had many questions, she knows
Junior better than Dr Larrick. Junior has had the swellings for almost two
months now and everything is the same. Actually overall he is better than
two months ago especially with the weight gain.

I decided against vaccinations. Dr Larrick was ok with that. I have another
cat right now who has mild symptoms of a URI. ALthough I do my best to keep
them apart. Their is bound to be some small exposure. Junior has not caught
whatever Silver has. I think this is a good sign that he has some defenses
left.

I will have to see if I can get a hold of Dr Staunton next week to get her
opinion. She is the Junior vet at this practice. My guess is right out of
vet school. I will say that Dr Larrick felt that were it Lymphoma Junior
would be displaying other symptoms.

Junior at least feels well enough to be lovey dovey these days. I am glad
for that.

Thanks,

Sally

Hi Sally,
I don't understand why your vet would suggest a wait and see approach
with a felv pos cat.

 Thanks,

 Sally

2007-01-31 Thread Sally Davis

I now have Junior on Transfer factor Plus. Time will tell if it is helpful.
I like to think it will help him. He is somewhat stable except for the eye
problem. He sees very little right now. He is figuring his was around the
house and venture out of my bedroom often. I take that for a sign he at
leasts feels better. Althiugh I know glaucoma is painful he shows no sign of
discomfort in that eye. Maybe because of the prior nerve damage. My Fluffy
had glaucoma from an eye injury and he let me know it did not feel good.
That is when I decided to have the eye removed. I pretty much have decided
it is the right thing for junior. I just want himat his best if he is to
have surgery. I am hoping the Transfer Factor will build up his immune
systen and help clear the infection in the other eye.
Junior fights me now when he sees me coming. He does not want the eye
ointments! He hates it. I take that as a sign he feels better. He is not
grooming much, but he is eating a bit better. I upgraded his Catfood. HIs
Lysine and Transfer Factor get mixed in the morning dose.

I am sorry to hear about Lucy. She looks much like my Spike who thank
goodness is neagtive for FELV. She had been vaccinated many years ago by me
and then again last fall. I am still praying for you and Lucy.

Junior

2007-01-26 Thread Sally Davis

Hi everyone,

Just a brief update on Junior. His Right eye still looks like it is budging
with a definite cataract. He does not appear to have discomfort from it
though. He is still getting the Trusopt for Glaucoma and the chloramphenicol
antibiotic ointment in both eyes. I also have been giving him lysine 500mg
and have added Transfer Factor Plus to his supplements. He gets Pet Tabs
plus iron as well . He is eating better and has put on a little bit of
weight. He is exploring the house. I am guessing because his vision is not
as good as it used to be. The left eye remains dilated and the pupil is
misshaped. It does look better to me although. I may be getting used to it
that way. He ears are thick and red again. It doesn'r seem to bother him I
will keep and eye on them.

This has been a very reactive disease. It does not allow you to be
proactive. I am hoping while he is better the Transfer Factor will help his
immune system. I am still considering removing the right eye, but I want him
at his best before surgery. Any idea how long after I use the Transfer
Factor I should wait.

Daisy is in heat and driving me crazy. I could not get her an appointment
until 2/27/07.

I just want to thank everyone for their help. I still have not gotten
anywhere with my vet for interferon. He decided to do the steriods. I think
the shot gave Junior a boost but I still want to give the interferon a shot.
I am hoping the Transfer Factor will keep him stable.

Thanks,

Sally Davis

Are they irritated from transdermal meds? I've used a tiny touch of

Just in case my previous email does not show up. Junior got his meds while I

I never thought about thsi until I saw the posting in the archives about the

Maybe someone can help my sister who is disabled and lives in Manteca, CA.
Apparently in these rural bedroom type communities the is no help for feral

she can do for them due to her health. Anyone out there in CA who might have

2007-01-11 Thread Sally Davis

Hi all

I am back from my trip. Our old email is still not working. I am playing
catchup on emails, so i have not yet read any of the archives. Eric was able
to get junior to the vet for his eye meds both wednesday and today. He only
missed one dose od the Trusopt, glaucoma medicine yesterday. Other than the
eye problem which is serious enough Junior seems in pretty good condition.
Since he is not seeing well. His litter box is back in my room. I got him
back in lysine today. I cannot get Eric to give him medicine. Also I have to
pound it into a powder and I add it to his food. Next time I buy it I wil
get the capsules. I took sone to for a small cold sore I sometimes get, It
did clear up faster than normal.

Thanks Nina Kerry and Phaewyrn for all your suggestions and help.

RE: Junior/pumpkin

2007-01-07 Thread Sally
It is a Long Island Cheese, a very long keeping winter squash/pumpkin. I did
not notice any mold on it. I did scrub it b4 cooking. I also gave him half
an amoxicillin my vet told me it causes mucus which helps with elimination.
He peed well today. I had moved his litter box the utility room a week ago.
Maybe he did not like that so for now it is back in my room. I have to go to
work hopefully no problems while I am gone. I gave him his eye medicine. The
left eye is the worse. It is also his blind side. It is red and inflamed. I
don't think it was bulging as much as it had been.

Thanks

2007-01-07 Thread Sally
Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Junior peed this morning a good amount, so I knew that was not his problem
yesterday. I gave him pumpkin this morning and some probiotics last night.
He pooped tonight a small amount and no straining. It was sort of hard. That
is how Spikes poops are all the time. I feel like that was his problem. I
will continue the pumpkin until I am sure he is over his constipation. I
guess I will let him keep the litter box in my room as well. He still uses
the one in the utility room.

He stopped grooming again. I think in part because of the constipation. He
also does not like the ointment I have to put in his eyes. I understand the
Atropine is very bitter. You can see him say YUCK! His eyes look inflamed,
but maybe not as swollen. It will take a few days to tell. It seems like you
fix one problem and then there is another problem.

Thanks

I would remove the blind eye if your vet thinks he would be strong enough
for the surgery, it's pointless to keep a source of pain which serves no
purpose other than to create pain. Blind cats really do very well, I know
you don't want it to come to that, but blind and comfortable would be
preferable to being able to see a little with constant pain.

Hi

It seems like it is one setback after another with Junior. He got his immuno
regulin shot and for now is done with that. He is being treated for the eye
infection. He hates that of course. He drooled terrible when I used the
Atropine sulfate in his eye. I think he licked some off. His vision must be
pretty bad right now he did seem disoriented. My big concern and of course
it is the weekend. He seems to be having bathroom issues. He went in several
times and I don't think he did anything. He also went in and cried out. He
came right back out. Later he went back and cried again, but he did urinate
a small amount. Could this be in response to his new meds. He proceeded to
drink water after the last episode. I have to work tomorrow(Sunday). I am
hoping this is minor. I really can't take him to the emergency clinic. Any
ideas what I can do in the mean time?

Thanks

Could it be constipation? Seen any poos in the box? If not, give him some
canned pumpkin. You don't happen to have any lactulose laying around by
chance? Pumpkin will be the next best thing that you can just run to the
grocery and get tonight. I'd do it now, the sooner the better. Antibiotics
can kill the good gut flora.. so if you have any probiotics, give him those
too.. or plain yogurt (make sure it says it has live active bacteria on the
label). If he hasn't moved his bowels in 3 days, it's considered an
emergency, and you should get him to the vet first thing Monday. If he can't
pee, you should take him within 24 hours, but you said he did pass a little
pee.

I gave Junior some probiotics that you sent me. I cleaned out the litter
boxes earlier today, so I cannot verify if he has pooed. I brought his box
back into my bedroom so I can monitor the situation. He does not seem in
distress at this time other than me giving him the dreaded eye ointments. I
will try to get some pumpkin before I go to work. Or I could just cook the
one sitting on my deck. I let you know how it goes.

HI everyone,

I think my email is working alright now. Comcast was bouncing all my groups
in yahoo. I was having trouble sending email right after Tiny died. I want
to thank everyone for their support after Tiny's sudden death Christmas day.
It is so hard to accept and yet I must.

Junior still has the uveitis and it is now in his good eye. The URI finally
cleared up, but I refilled the antibiotic for the eye infection. He is
getting Gentamicin drops in both eyes as well. I spoke to Kerry about
Bandy's treatment for uveitis. I will see if steroid drops are needed when
Junior goes for his immunoregulin injection on Friday. If anything good came
out of this Junior seems a bit more at ease. Hr really did not like Tiny. I
don't think Tiny cared either way. Junior seems a weak right now. I am not
sure why. He does not have pale gums to indicate anemia. He has just gotten
his appetite back so maybe he will start perking up.

Again thank you all for your support when Tiny passed away. He is waiting
for me.

to try different things for Junior. Why does he want

it has been the best decision. This new vet is

hope you find a new vet soon. wish i knew someone down there. perhaps
try an internist at a larger hospital or vet school if there are any nearby, or
a cat specialist.

I think it is better to start IV. It is not prescription, and you
have it, so all you really need is someone who can do IV shots, not necessarily
a vet. If you know anyone in rescue, they will probably know someone who
can do it. the woman who runs the shelter where my cats came from did the shots
for mine. if you know any vet techs, they can definitely do it.

Hi Sally,From what I am reading you don't need to make any decisions about putting Junior to sleep right this minute; is that correct? He has an upper respiratory infection that is being treated, and is he otherwise okay (other than being FeLV+), right? Why does the vet want to put him to sleep tomorrow? You've got a lot on your plate right now, and I can understand why you are emotionally drained. If Junior is basically alright despite the URI, why not just keep him separate for awhile from Tiny (like you are alreadydoing) and then make decisions as needed. Hi Kelly,

This is the message I tried sending yesterday. My server is blocking
outgoing mail. And Eric is not here to tell me what to do. Please post
this to the group as well. I have to go to work now..

Thanks
Everyday that goes by I am more confused. Junior went to the vet today.
She treated him for the upper respiratory infection. I though all was
good with the world. I called her this evening to let her know how junior
was doing. I do think he is still running a temp, but I did not want to
upset him anymore. She was preparing me to put him down maybe as soon as
tomorrow. I know at least for this moment he is not ready to cross that
bridge. I have separated him and Tiny. The other cats are still locked
outside the bedrooms. And mostly stay outside for their own safety. I
know this group is for the cats, but I am mentally, emotionally, and
physically drained.I had reactive hypoglycemia this morning.
I have ordered immuno-regulan on Kelly's advice. I now will have to talk
the vet into giving it. I printed out the protocol for administering
it.
Does anyone out there know of vets in the Richmond VA area who may be
willing to work with me. My usual vets office is extremely busy.
I am too tired to think.
Sally
PS My server would not send this message last night.
Junior seems better this morning. I don't believe he has a fever. I will
not put him through that ordeal unless I think there is a problem. Junior
and Tiny don;t like each other. They don't fight, but they do growl
a lot at each other. For now I will keep them separate. The stress may
have benn what precipitated this most recent cold.

2006-10-17 Thread cindy reasoner
Hi, My cat Smokey was getting fevers all the time. I
actually changed vets and the new vet put him on
immuno-regulin injections twice a weeek. I would give
them to him at home subq. That was back in March and
he hasn't had any fevers since. He still gets the
injections but I do it less now. We have gone to 1
injection every other week. I hope this might help.

Re: Fwd: Junior FeLV

2006-10-17 Thread Nina

Sally,
Talk about confused! I don't understand why your vet would be
suggesting pts when Junior appears to be doing better. I'd think
seriously about finding yourself a different vet. It could be that she
just wants to prepare you for the worst case scenario, but it sounds
like he's improving and you shouldn't be considering that at this
point. Ask your vet for a referral to a specialty clinic for a
certified internist. There's no guarantee that you will have any more
confidence in the new vet, but they at least they will have more
experience.

I think it's a good idea to keep the kids separated at this point, it
will be less stressful for them if they have a longer acclimation time.
When you are ready, write to us with questions about how to slowly get
them to accept each other.
Keep your spirits up. Listen to your heart and intuition. You're doing
fine by Junior. Hey, you found us right?

2006-10-16 Thread Sally Davis

Hi everyone

This is a great group. I am waiting until I can see the vet this morning.
Junior who tested positive for Felv 10/6/06 is now running a fever of
106.7. I am scared and I feel so helpless.
I lost one cat less than two weeks ago. He crashed at the vet's office.
He was never tested but I am sure this virus had something to do with it.
My Nerves are shot. Please pray for junior. I do not know how the vet is
with treating these FeLV cats. I was planning on seeing my usual vet but
they weren't sure how soon they could see junior. I did not sleep well last
night. as I knew he wasn't feeling well.

I will let you know tonight.

Sally

Sally,

I'm sorry about your other kitty. And here are vibes that Junior gets
better. Don't let the vet railroad you into anything with him. If the
vet won't treat him just like they would a negative cat, leave. Here's
hoping it will be okay.

Hi Diane and all

Junior is home. He has a upper respiratory and was given a stronger
antibiotic, subcutaneuos fluids and a b12 shot. I was also told to give him
some yogurt as he has diarrhea. His fever had gone down a little it was
104. He ate when he got home and started purring. Now he is separated from
tiny.

I have to go to work to make sure I can take care of these kitties. I am
still looking for help (financially) to get the though this . I live near
Richmond VA. If anyone knows of any good cat groups to contact please let
me know.

Thanks

Re: Junior

2006-10-16 Thread Nina
I'm so glad to hear that Junior is doing better. It sounds like the vet
you brought him to knows what he's doing. You might want to look into
Immuno Regulin to try. Some of the list members have had good results
with it. You can do a search for it to see discussions about it. Hang
in there,
