Re: [Audyssey] Mach 1 tts

2012-05-27 Thread Jim Kitchen

Hi lenron,

Mach 1 tts can be found on my free windows sapi5 text to speech games page.
The file name is wincart2.exe.

And yes, I have been told that my games with a bit of help do run under Windows
7. Here are the instructions

The first thing that you need to do is to run the setup.exe file in the
winkit.zip file as it installs files that the rest of the games need. So open
the winkit.zip file, press S and then enter. The winkit.zip file is the first
link on my free windows text to speech games page.

The rest of my games require full administration rights to
install. To do this arrow to the games installation file, press the
Windows context menu key, arrow to run as administrator, and press
enter. This will allow you to install the game as administrator. Or you can just turn off the whole User Account Control thing in Vista or Windows 7 and it will do the same thing.

And here is a message about my games and Windows 7.

Hello all, I just found out something I hope will help you Sherry, ok you no
how in windows 7 we have two program file folders? One is just called program
files, and the other is called program files x86, well here is what happen to
me. I installed the winkit program and it went into just the program files
x86 folder. And when I installed the games they went into the folder. Called
just program files. So fined out which one is the winkit one and go to which
of the program folders the computer put the games in and copy and paste them
into the winkit one it works.

Like I found out winkit was in the program files x86 so I went to just program
files and copied the games from kitchensinc and put them in program files x86
kitchensinc and then I removed the one in program files. Just deleted the
folder.

Make sure you are in administrator

Hope that helps.

Susan

I hope that helps.

Hi Ben,

Sorry, I'm a bit confused. Is it my sentence structure that is wrong, or the
amount of fuel that I finished with?

If it is the amount that I finished with, that is because I pitted later on the
second run. The first run I pitted on lap 25. I meant to do that on the
second run, but crashed just as I was getting ready to pit, so didn't pit until
a few laps later.

Hi Simon,

I am sorry, but I have never had or even ever seen a side winder logitech
wheel. So all I can suggest is, if my game is recognizing it, choose the
configure joystick option and give it a go.

No, Mach 1 tts does not support force feed back. None of my games do, as I
have never found any sample source code for force feed back in VB6 and DirectX
8.1.

Hi Jana,

No, Mach 1 tts is not supposed to just start your engine and immediately give
you a time for that round. Truthfully I do not know why or how it would do
that. I do not believe that it is doing that on any other computer. May I
suggest that you try un installing the game by running the uninmach.bat file
and then try installing the game again from my web site.

I am also a bit confused as to why in your last message you asked about how to
run the pit road, as you were getting a penalty when you did. Sounds like the
game was running ok then.

Sorry, but I don't know what else to say.

Hi Shaun,

Yes, the speech is interruptible in Mach 1 tts just like it is in all of my
games, even in the menus. I think that is the way that it should be. That way
you can arrow through the menu quicker. Guess that a person needs to be
lighter on the fingers if you want to fully hear each of the menu items.

it works here ok I did notice that if you push keys down to fast or if you push

and when you exit it barely gets thank out and it quits.
So obviously something strange is up with the program, it does speak though,
but yeah.

Hi Jana,

Pit road is kind of hard. It takes some practice to get good at it. But basically you
press the button to open pit road just passed the start finish line. You will hear it
say pit road. You are now on pit road. You will want to turn, brake and down shift so
as to get down to 50 miles an hour before you get to the straight part of pit road. Once
on the straight part of pit road you need to get over to the side where you here the
voice saying your pit box in, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. And about the time that you
here the number 2 slam on the brakes so that you stop right in your pit box.

That is about as well as I can describe what to do. I have a short recording
of a pit stop starting just before the start finish line. It is on Send Space.

File Name: pitstop.mp3

Hi Charles,

Well Mach 1 tts version 2 will have fuel consumption and pit roads. I
have fixed the not keeping keyboard settings bug and added game options
such as three different wall sound options, being able to turn off the
automatic speedometer and automatic gear announce, as well as the pit road
snacks and track light polls. It's taking some time as it is summer and
all. And I still need to rewrite all of the keyboard and joystick
configurability stuff because of the pit road option as well as the
instructions. I have a couple of more ideas that I am trying to get into
version 2 as well.

The pit road is really hard to pull in just right without speeding and
stopping right in your pit box. But with starting with a full tank of
fuel, you don't even have to worry about it unless you are running more
than 100 miles or there abouts.

I set a ridiculously high maximum number of laps for Mach 1 tts, 9,999. So
200 laps on the Painsville oval would work. The Painsville oval was the

Hi Mike and Peter,

I think that if I add fuel consumption I will add a fuel gauge and it will be
up to you to check that and pit before running out of fuel.

Maybe I could have it so that if at the beginning of the front straightaway,
you press a key or button, it will then open pit row. You then must drive to
and stop at your pit. Now at least in NASCAR a good pit is what 14 seconds.
So it could count down and you would take off sort of like at the start of the

Well that is what I am thinking anyway.

Hi Mike,

The crowd sound just indicates how close you are to the wall. Now the other
sounds, when you are on a straightaway they indicate which way the next turn
will be by being on that side. In the turn they indicate which way that turn
turns. And both in a turn and on a straightaway the louder the sound the
closer you are to the end of that section. And there is the sound of your
tires going over an expansion joint at the beginning of each section. And with
practice on a track you get to know how many times the sound repeats or exactly
when you are approaching the end of that section.

could also incorporate pit stops every so often during races exceeding a
designated number of laps? Just some ideas to make it more like running
lengthy races. Thanks.

Hi Charles and Mike,

I set a ridiculously high maximum number of laps for Mach 1 tts, 9,999. So 200
laps on the Painsville oval would work. The Painsville oval was the Indy oval.
It should be about 2.5 miles. I just changed the name and made the turns a
bit more exciting.

I thought about, and still am thinking about pit stops. I'm just not sure how
to by sound, show where you need to turn in for the pits and at the same time
not screw up the navigational sounds of the track as they are.

Is there a way to have it say pit stop and a sound of wrenches or a
different type of sound. Or maybe yet ask if you want to stop for a pit stop
or give a message saying you are low on gas and ask you. If you say yes then
have it automatically stop? After you stop, and it says go you have to take
over the driving again?

Just some ideas. I would love that. Make it even more challenging something
kind of like railracer where the stops. I think it would really rock.

2009-06-01 Thread Jim Kitchen

Hi Tim,

I paid $100.00 for my Logitech MOMO Racing steering wheel. I bought it from
the Microcenter store in Mayfield Ohio. There is a microcenter.com site and I
think 21 stores.

The steering wheel is a large unit. It's main base is as wide as a keyboard
and as deep, but of course much taller. It has three clamps to hold it down on
a keyboard tray. It plugs into the USB and a wall outlet for power. The
steering wheel is a really nice rubber grip covered steering wheel. There is
two fins behind the wheel that you can easily pull with your finger tips with
your hands on the wheel. There are 6 buttons on the hub of the wheel and then
there is a gear shift knob just to the right of the wheel. Then there is a non
skid base that sits on the floor and has the gas and brake peddles.

So far I have played Top Speed, Pong, Puppy1 and Mach 1 with it. Puppy 1 was a
bit strange though. Pretty sure that Rail Racer also has joystick support.

Hi Kevin,

Yes, in the first turn of the Chesterland track you want to go at about 25 MPH,
The second turn about 75 MPH. And then again as I said you need to be between
100 and 125 MPH for the jump over the swimming hole. Then the last turn back
into the front straightaway is one of those that gets sharper in the middle of
the turn so you can go in fast, but have to slow and then can accelerate back
out of it.

I crashed once in the first turn while showing it to a friend and he thought that I

Hi Kevin,

I guess the below might be considered a spoiler.

On the Chesterland track you want to be in the center of the track. That is
between 40 and 60 and then you want to be going between 100 and 125 miles an
hour when you hit the ramp to jump over the swimming hole. That is also the
only place where the sound is in the center rather than off to one side or the

I hope that helps.

Hi Kevin,

Thank you very much. I'm very glad that you like Mach 1 tts so much
better than Mach 1 v6c. I've had a few years of learning stuff like
DirectX for sounds, keyboard and joystick since Mach 1 v6c. So I also
think that Mach 1 tts is much better than Mach 1 v6c.

If you mean multi player on line like Top Speed, No, I'm sorry, but I have
no idea how to do that. If you mean other dummy cars like Mach 1 v6c, I
might put that in a future version.

Thanks again and BFN

slowing down and I'm going at the second gear usually.

Hi Valiant,

I will put the option in so that you can choose between the crowd sound or the
wind sound, but personally I can not understand how it is going to make a
difference as it is the exact same thing, only a different sound. You know as
you get closer to the wall the crowd or wind sound gets louder. That's it.
The other sounds that let you know how far along you are in the straightaway or
curve are still going to be there.

2009-05-28 Thread Valiant8086
Hi.
I listened to the recordings you made, and mine sounds way different than
that. My croud sound is a lot louder and I really can't hear my engine sound. I
have turned down the sounds volume quite a lot. But everything goes down with
it. I noticed that the sounds you get for when it's time to turn etc are to the
left or right like you said they would be. They're not like that for me. When I
actually manage to hear one it's dead center in my stereo field. Hmm. Maybe if
I play around with hardware accelleration for my sound card.

Hi Valiant,

I am sorry, but I don't know what to say. I have not heard of anyone else
having the problem of my games coming out in mono rather than stereo panning.
Mono sure would make them sound different and much harder to try to play.

Again, I'm sorry, but I really don't know what to say.

All of the sounds in Mach 1 tts should be panning back and fourth as you move
left or right in the straightaways or get close to the walls in the turns
except for your engine. It does not pan as you are sitting in your car. You
can play Mach 1 tts ok even if you can not hear your car engine. Just shift up

Hi Dark,

Hey you know I worked my lug nuts off for six months to make Mach 1 tts. So
you had six months to get caught up on all of my files. Well except for the
ones that I put up last month that people had sent to me. But I have had Mach
1 tts in mind every since I learned the joystick code for Puppy 1. Just to
keep you on your toes, I've got a couple of more game ideas in mind.

I hope that you like Mach 1 tts. I did try it with my single stick joystick
that works great for Puppy 1. It works, but is strange and it is much more fun
driving a car with a steering wheel and peddles.

Re: [Audyssey] Mach 1 tts

2009-05-26 Thread Jim Kitchen

Hi Charles,

But the thing is, with the new sound scheme of Mach 1 tts, the sounds tell you
which way the next turn will turn and how close you are getting to the start of
that turn. Not just driving down a straightaway and all of a sudden a noise
tells you that you have just started into a left turn that you didn't even know
was coming. The same with the sounds in the turn letting you know how far
along in the turn you are.

Now if it is just that you liked the wind echo sound better than the crowd
sound, I could make that an option.

hi jim, I had this idea, I was thinking about when you shift gears and
brake, maybe we could have some better sounds, a click for gears and
the sounds of tires squealing when you brake? as for the engine
volume, the best stage of the engine volume I like is right after you
hear 10 and the countdown starts, and then the sapi pretty much
doesn't let me hear the engine that much and I like the engine sound.
ok I'm off to get my times better at a particular track!

Hi Jim.

Well I freely admit I've been lazy about updates recently, owing to being in
egypt and taken up with other matters, but all of your stuff including
mack 1 is done now.

Personally, I found the game to be honest damnably difficult on a keyboard.

I'll freely admit though, racing games aren't particularly my forte at the
best of times, particularly ones with such sensative controls.

Sinse I already have a monstrous X arcade stick, I really should buy the usb
adapter so that I can plug it into a pc, I'm not sure why I haven't,
accept that I've actually got used to playing games on a keyboard.

And to think when I was 9 and we owned an amigar, playing on keyboard was
punishment for anyone who cheated! lol!

I'll look forward to more games.

While I'll frankly admit Mac 1 is a bit of a strain for me, I've had lots of
fun with puppy 1, - perfect for a quick turn on and blast session!

Hi Dark,

Hey you know I worked my lug nuts off for six months to make Mach 1 tts.
So you had six months to get caught up on all of my files. Well except
for the ones that I put up last month that people had sent to me. But I
have had Mach 1 tts in mind every since I learned the joystick code for
Puppy 1. Just to keep you on your toes, I've got a couple of more game
ideas in mind.

I hope that you like Mach 1 tts. I did try it with my single stick
joystick that works great for Puppy 1. It works, but is strange and it is
much more fun driving a car with a steering wheel and peddles.

Hi Jim,
I just played Mach 1 TTS, and it's lots of fun!
Unfortunately I haven't plugged in my game pad to try it out yet, so I used
the keyboard defaults.
Your description is good but some keyboards put the six pack keys in a
vertical configuration instead of horizontal so you should say what key does
what as in,

Default keyboard configuration.
The six pack is usually above the arrow keys.
right shift key = speedometer.
right control key = track position.
lower center key of the six pack, End key, = start engine and say gear.
lower right key of the six pack, page down, = say lap.
upper center key of the six pack, home key, = play horn.
lower left key of the six pack, delete key, = say current elapse race time.
left arrow key = steering left.
right arrow key = steering right.
up arrow key = up shift one gear.
down arrow key = down shift one gear.
left control key = gas peddle.
left shift key = brake peddle.

Hi Valiant,

All of the sounds in Mach 1 tts should be panning back and fourth as you
move left or right in the straightaways or get close to the walls in the
turns except for your engine. It does not pan as you are sitting in your
car. You can play Mach 1 tts ok even if you can not hear your car engine.
Just shift up at 75, 125 and 175.

May I ask, does anyone else have a problem with the engine being too
quiet? I really didn't want it too loud as the other sounds are more
important to listen to for locational purposes.

Re: [Audyssey] Mach 1 tts

2009-05-26 Thread Jim Kitchen

Hi Peter,

Thank you for your suggestions.

Ok, I will turn the volume of the tire squeal back up when you shift, but I
didn't like it louder. Plus you hear it announce the gear and the engine RPM
change. And I never found a good gear click sound that worked.

Same problem with the brake sound. It is just very hard to find a tire squeal
sound that sounds ok when it is played looping over and over. And if you don't
use a little brake sound and loop it, you have no idea how long the file needs
to be for any and all braking circumstances. But I will try to get a better
one in there.

You can adjust the volume of the sapi5 speech if it is too loud for you. And
of course the different voices themselves are of different volumes.

I started the engine sound out loud so that we could play with it, revving it
up and making some noise. But I definitely don't want it so loud that I can
not hear the rest of the sounds that I am using to know where I am at on the
track during the race. You know the crowd and music or other sounds that
indicate how close you are to the wall or how far along you are in the
straightaway or turn.

Hi Constantine,

You know you can drive Mach 1 tts with the keyboard. I don't think that
it is as fun, but it can still be done.

I just tried to make Mach 1 tts as close to real driving as I could with
my Logitech MOMO Racing steering wheel.

2009-05-25 Thread Matheus
hi jim.
yeah, that's exactly what i'm asking, the possibility to add these other
cars in the tracks just like in mach 1 the old version.
you could make a setting to choose how many cars do you want to race
against you.
i'm not asking for online play since i know it's tow difficult, and in
my opinion not necessary for this game, since playing offline is already
really fun.
thanks.

Hi Matheus,

I will not be making Mach 1 tts like Top Speed where you can race against
others on line. Might add random dummy cars like Mach 1 version 6c, but am not
sure.
Mach 1 tts is all about getting your best time and the random dummy cars seem
to fuddle that a bit.

I really don't know about a track editor. Didn't write the game with that in
mind. I'll think about it though.

Thank you very much for saying that the rest of the game is really really good.

Hi Luká¹,

Thanks. Yes, I did write Mach 1 tts for my steering wheel joystick so some of
the tracks are pretty hard to drive via the keyboard. I surprised myself and
actually
drove a lap on the Chesterland track with the keyboard. That was one track
that I thought might be impossible with the keyboard.

I'm sorry, but I am not sure how I would write a hockey, soccer, basketball or
goal ball game. Just don't know how to do a game with many players all moving
all
the time.

I just hope this one isn't too difficult with a keyboard. While I
understand the point of realistic racing games for people who own steering

Hi,

I have put a new file up on my web site.

File name wincart.exe. File size 8.3 meg.

I wrote Mach 1 tts specifically for my Logitech MOMO Racing steering
wheel joystick. It should work ok with other game controllers as well.
However some of the tracks may be very difficult if not impossible to
drive via the keyboard.

The file can be found on my free windows sapi5 text to speech games page.

Have a good racing day.

Yeah, I thought that the sounds everywhere on the track and getting louder

sighting his spots to know when to turn or where to be to get ready to
turn etc. But I also just like to know where at on the track I am all the

2009-05-25 Thread Valiant8086
Hi.
I'm unable to hear my engine over top of the croud. Can you make an option to
adjust the croud sound independently of other sounds? I'm having this problem
with a lot of games. I do have a serious hearing loss, but I think my netbook
is doing something because gtc used to behave that way until I changed some
settings. Everything is as loud as possible. I turned down the volume but that
turned down the engine too which doesn't help. Is the croud sound supposed to
play mono? I don't think anything is playing in different places in my stereo
field, but I'm not sure about that as I can't actually hear it anyway.
