It is a reasonable way to advance the timing to find the limits, be careful though as you can't always hear detonation and on ULP fuel you can't expect to be able to advance by more that 2-4 degrees over standard. If you are using PULP then you can go to 6 but I'd be reluctant to go any higher.

The regd tare weight for a 510 is 970 Kg but this is for the heaviest of them which was a '72 GL auto. The registered tare of a manual 4 speed '71 is 910 Kg or just over 2000 lbs which is not helpful as a VG30 is 2960cc. This means the 1600 is under weight by 16.7 Kg for the VG30 NA technically

Trev, Interesting numbers here, the Nizpro 1600 was designed along the same idea from memory, they chopped 1" or so out of a Bluebird xmember and plumbed in a Skyline rack HR31? and also used some 300Z bits for the steering column. Chopping up a xmember would have to be only for racing me thinks.

The closest Oz model was the Bluebird 910 Fury look-a-like that the country dealers kitted up 500 of. There is one pic of the car that the Z18 engine belongs to that the link is broken but you get a bit of an idea from the Sports Sedan.
