Right, this isn't like they're asking for a backdoor so they can access any
iPhone remotely at any time... they have to physically have the device for it
to be of any use
I haven't been paying close attention to this but I thought I saw one TV report
that said earlier versions of iOS could simply be unlocked. Supposedly Apple
has unlocked previous unencrypted phones. That all changed with iOS 9 though
because of encryption and that there is no simple unlock any

Problem is that once you do it. It's done and they can do it again, and
again. If you think it will only ever get used on this ONE phone then you
are delusional.

Would Still have to have the physical device, and 30 seconds and a
sledgehammer help with that.

Isn't the Iphone is From China? Obama could just pickup the phone and
call President Jinping and say, "Hey, you guys built this, and our US
company isn't helping us out. How about finding a nice engineer over at
the plant to unlock it for us."
I bet they'd do it in a heartbeat.

As I understand it, that is exactly what the gov is asking them for. FBI
wants Apple to decrypt and send over the data. Nothing more. No
"software on every phone" to do this. Just that ONE phone. Get the data,
then incinerate the device.
