I note that some people have installed 2.7.2. Is there a summary somewhere of the new features available with 2.7.2? Maybe is not exact the definition of gimp 2,7.2 nightly build may give a more clear idea. since are nightly build there are almost daily changes But i suppose you refer to one of this build now compiled for Windows Not sure where is the full list but i may point to some changes new cage transform tool single window mode available fixed crash when using the text tool but from this version are also visible the future changes in the API; in simple words most of third party plugin and scripts WILL NOT WORKS because all need to be modified to work with gimp 2.8 (and so with gimp 2.7.2) that probably will be done(by their developers and/or volunteers ) at soon gimp 2.8 will be out In the while only a few plugin are updated (their win binary are on www.partha .com, same link for the 2.7.2 for Windows...and for the instrution to install it...really needed if you overlook instrution will not work )in the win registry you may found a few script offered in 2 version for the stable 2,6 and for 2.7 In case you want try 2.7 (for Windows )you may got some more tip on http://www.gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?f=7t=1328start=70 ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user
[Gimp-user] R: GIMP
I am on Windows XP Pro SP3 and I know of 2 ways to start GIMP: either doubleclick the GIMP-icon on the desktop or the gimp-2.6.exe file. there is a third way Click on Start, how you will do to make the programs list pop out, close at the bottom, at left you will see run there type the path for gimp exe (to avoid typo you can RIGHT click on gimp.exe, chose propriety and copy the path that should look as C:\Program Files\GIMP 2.6\bin\gimp.2.6 exe then click ok or press enter How to set beforehand the GIMP_DEBUG environment variable is way beyond my knowledge. also mine..anyway maybe start gimp from Run adding verbose will help something as C:\Program Files\GIMP 2.6\bin\gimp.2.6 exe -verbose (but maybe you HD is not called C) But nevertheless, I meanwhile found out that I have (a lot of) personal GIMP-files, and where they are: http://fotoalbum.seniorennet.be/incl/getimage2.php?imageid=1607079albumid=18832typeid=4 This fortunate discovery, I hope, will help me a lot to better understand GIMP. Sure..there you may see a lot of empty folders as script plugin brush, etc There you are supposed to add your extra, as third party plugins, scripts, brush In case of upgrade they will preserved (but instead,if placed in the programfiles folders, will be all deleted by upgrades) Below is a line actually copied from my own gimprc-file: (help-locales en) Perhaps it would have been orthodox to change this en to nl. But nevertheless my non-standard trick did the job? The HELP-buttons and the F1-key do show me the help I ask. [Gimp-user] Bug in the Gradient tool ?
it happen to me with gimp 2.8 on win XP, Not sure if may be replicated in other OS, before report as a bug i would like to be sure 1)start gimp, change the default gradient with something other you may see in the toolbox the new gradient as the active gradient 2) click on the blend tool In its dialog you will see that ignore the change, if you use it it will draw with the default gradient 3) only way to change it is from the blend tool dialog change again the gradient In a fewer words the change of gradient if done trough the toolbox widget seems ignored, even if apparently the change is accepted Only from the Blend tool dialog seems possible change the gradient That become a problem not only when directly using the blend tool (where at least the problem is visible so easier to correct) but also using filters as Gradient Map ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user

[Gimp-user] Moving images from point a to b animated
The problem I am having now is that when I go to video/move path and then try and edit the source image layer it is empty. How do I get the image in it. Gap is more geared towards Frames then Layers animation Meaning that your input image may be a layer but a layer of a frame (Frames are images, but name with a progressive number..as 1-image.xcf a frame may have only 1 or more layer ) Its a quite important point if you don't want work with frames but only with single image with many layers may be better found some alternative to GAP As example this script http://www.gimptalk.com/forum/-script-fu-move-layers-similar-to-gap%CA%B9s-move-path--t46740.html and the other of same author you will found in the first page of that board About the advantage of Frames anymationVS layer animation is simple: a complex animation may require a lot of layer to be smooth And a image with some hundreds of layer may easily become too big, as file size , may become impossible save or open it without crashes Working with frames if your computer has sufficient memory to process the first, then will be able to process also the others (since once created they are automatically saved and loaded only when needed ..they don't need to be all loaded simultaneously But in case of layers of same image is the contrary, you may not load only a couple of layer but only all the image ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user

Actually that problem with the Windows clipboard (on XP ) stripping the alpha channel seems vanished (maybe some recent Windows update? ) And anyway is possible that was a issue only on XP not on Vista or 7 Am I the only one using GIMP who has no such problems when copy/pasting with the clipboard? Re: [Gimp-user] Copy and past between GIMP and external app on Windows
The Windows clipboard reserve even more horrors , as example strip away the transparency (alpha channel) So may be a good idea save in gimp and then reopen from the external app instead then copy and paste BUT from the gimp side will be nice a menu option as Open With or Send to to exchange images with other apps I am working on Windows XP, GIMP 2.6.7. like this: 1- I scan an image in 300 dpi at his real size: A4 and obtain file in Jpeg and/or Tif. 2- I open the file in GIMP. 3- I select part of the image and copy (Ctrl + C) the selection in the Clipboard. And now my problem: Past (Ctrl V) on: - Gimp: the size of the copied selection is good (equal to the original size). - Microsoft program like Powerpoint or OO program like Draw or Inkscape: the size is around multiply by 3! ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user

I have downloaded G'MIC and unzipped it, but it's not clear how to install it. I would guess that it should simply be copied to /usr/lib64/gimp/2.0/plug-ins, but this procedure doesn't seem to be documented anywhere. Or maybe it's better to copy it to $HOME/.gimp-2.6/plug-ins . Or maybe something else. Hard to tell without know your OS Anyway the old Greycstoration plugin still work very well in gimp 2.6 Gmic is much more, it include other 300 filters and may look more complex (even if has a better Gui then GreyC )..a price for all the options that may offer) .. *BTW:* How carefully are the plugins in the Gimp Plugin Registry checked for trojans, etc? Not exactly and is not only a problem for clones even if happen much more seldom in other cases I always fail to explain it with the right words i hope other may do better I try again but the technical term may be not exact: Basically there are parameters assigned to each script, when 2 or more script use the same name of a already assigned parameter trouble happen. Obviously is almost sure this will happen for similar version of the same script, while is much less probable for different scripts But then parameters in that context may be a misleading or misused term i hope someone else may explain better ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user

[Gimp-user] Two Gimp environment questions
I may answer only to question 2 this In FX-Foundry, the name is: phillips-quick-sketch.scm Last update according to internal comments: 9/9/2007 In Gimp-Registry, the name is: quick-sketch_0.scm Last update according to internal comments: 2/9/2009 The changes made by a different person than the originator. Should I expect to see duplication between FX-Foundry and the Gimp Registry? The Gimp Registry is the official add-on location, correct? Link: registry.gimp.org/node/5921 Link: sourceforge.net/projects/gimpfx-foundry Thank you. FX Foundry constantly update scripts for newer Gimp version so 2 very different thing may happen 1) in case of not more maintained script (that means very often) the FX-foundry version is the most up to date 2) in the opposite case, when the script author is taking care to maintain and update his scripts then may happen the opposite, that his version is the most up to date About the officiality of the plugin registry do not be confused, nobody obliged plugin developer to report there their plugin or script, many do, many other do not care, in this last case user may help, if you check my account there you may see that i added to registry the FX-Foundry pack you refer, The Gimp Animation Package, the David Batch Processor ,UnsharpMask2, and several other plugin and script I'm not the developer of any of them, when i somehow help was just to find compiled binary for Windows...But i added all them to the registry because they was missed (obviously is better if is the author to add them to the registry, the point is if that do not happen, and the script/plugin is GPL, users may help,( obviously taking care of the credits, and to add a link to the author page ,if any) Back to the point in YOUR CASE suggest to use fx-FOUNDRY NOT TO GET THE WHOLE PACK BUT TO GET WHAT YOU NEED . For that you may use the fx-foundry -index, all fx-foundry scripts are tagged for name, author name and categorized ,that will help your search and help avoid to download duplicates of script that you already have, but under a slightly different names. Note that 2 clone of same script mayhum..to simplify the concept 2 clones may kill each other so practically both will NOT work .(or only one randomly chosen will work, ) ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user

So if/when I upgrade GIMP to some future 2.6 release, those scripts and plugins will be found just as they are now with 2.6.4? depend on how you added them basically there 1 most dumb but easy way , easier mostly on Windows, that is dump new scripts to be installed just in the script folder in C:Program Files/Gimp/share/script. That seems more easy, but is also the most dumb : in this case scripts will be deleted when upgrading gimp Then there is 2 other smarter 2 way, 1 ) collect script in new folders, link from preference or 2) drop new scripts in your PERSONAL script folder, that ,in windows XP gimp offer you in C: Document and Settings/gimp/ script. (for VISTA almost the same C :Users/.gimp/ script ) Both of those 2 smarter methods preserve add on script when upgrading, the dumbest not.(also for that is the dumbest) __ Do You Yahoo!? I have no idea why the topic was moved on this list, if you want try the last SVN i suggest to build it in linux that is not to hard, compiling for win is far more complex, and seems evident that in that build something went wrong...so if was removed may be for good reasons. I have tried this about five times and it always looks like it is installing, but when I try to use help I get a message that says the pluggin isn't installed. Is there some way to fix this? Thanks -- Michael If you use Windows help came with a installer , if was not a installer you maybe get the the wromg help package But ,again on Windows may be some other problem with the HELP , at least i had In case you may 1) use online help (is a new option in the help menu) and/or 2 create a shortcut for the help you downloaded more exactly for the index page, then you may open the help with a click on the shortcut If you installed the Help you should see a help folder in your GIMP (inside Program Files/gimp/share/gimp/2.0 ) Open the help folder :there are inside one or more subfolders as en for English Help fr for France Help, open now the folder corresponding to your language, en for engish and search the file called index.html NOW you may right click on that file chose create link to the deskpot, then a click on the link will automatically open gimp help index, and from there any page of the help you may wish. when opened you may even bookmark the page in internet explorer or firefox ,all browsers allow to bookmark and/or display stored web pages,as are that from gimp help you installed ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user

From: Cristian Secar? or...@secarica.ro the first paste action the new created layer remain there for ever, even after six or ten thousands other further actions. I only want to combine layers when I give the command to flatten the image. That was a usability issue in older version of Gimp is solved now in gimp 2.6. Simply instead then copy and paste, you have to copy and PASTE AS/New Layer. Unfortunately the Gimp Help is not yet fully updated to Gimp 2.6 so the function may be not described there , but luckily is sufficent simple to not require documentation, just is needed to notice that menu option Another similar functions that avoid the user to have to unnecessary fiddle with floating selection in gimp 2.6 is Layer/new layer from visible. [Gimp-user] GAP for version 2.6.2
Davids Gowens wrote It's perfectly capable of working with GIMP 2.6 -- I have installed it i didn't check yet on linux but i noticed several problems running GAP with gimp 2.6 I'm hosting the last version of GAP available for windows the 2.4, but binary was compiled for gimp 2.4, maybe should be recompiled again. the most evidents problem i noticed are with Filter all layers and Frame Modify-apply filter using the Apply variyng option First quite a lot of warning are then displayed about missed plugin-iter files, then with my surprise (should be impossible if the iterator procedures were missed as reported from warnings)many filters works, other not as they should, even more strange some sometimes work, sometimes not To puntualize i'm talking about filter included in gimp (as Gaussian blur) and the errors i get is not that i will expect: I will expect in case of error only the first and last frame be correctly edited and not the ones in between. Instead a random numbers of frames or layer , in random positions on the layerstack are correctly edited in few cases(with gaussian blur) some frames are blurred but the others are screwed up by a weird kind of pixelations on the hightlight. Other problem, less serious but disturbing is with split imagine into frames...after is displayed not the first but the last frame we had some discussion on Gimptalk since others reported similar problems, i.e http://www.gimptalk.com/forum/filter-all-layers-not-working--p258098.html i did not report to bugzilla yet, because the windows version of gap2.4 is not a official build so i'm not sure is supported I hope you may help, i may ask help to recompile GAP, but first i want be sure that this ,( and maybe other problems i didn't check, for my workflow Frame Modify is fundamental, if that do not work, i have few reason to use the other gap plugins. so i will like to know if in linux frame modify-appy filters-variyng, split imagine in frames and the encoder work without bugs with gimp 2.6 Once i know for sure that are problems only of the windows version, i can search help to recompile gap ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user
[Gimp-user] GAP for version 2.6.2
David Gowers wrote It's perfectly capable of working with GIMP 2.6 -- I have installed it here, with no need for anything unusual. However, chances are nothing is wrong at all and your GIMP-GAP is fully functional. I fear not Actually i'm hosting the Windows installer of gap 2.4 BUT I'm not sure that is fully functional with Gimp-2.6, on the contrary i found, and i had reports of some serious bugs(only if used with gimp 2.6) I didn't report yet to bugzilla only because the Windows installer of GAP 2.4 is not official so i'm not sure is supported, but others should have anyway already reported to bugzilla some problems Most evident bugs i found are with Filter all layers-apply variyng and with Frame Modify_Apply filter on Frames_apply variyng First a lot of warning pop out about missed iter procedures, then strange things may happens... Note that i refer here only to use of gimp build in filters that on gimp 2.4 were all correctly animated...and the errors are not that i will expect I will expect in case of errors only first and last frames be edited, or none, while the filter is applied often to random numbers of frames in random positions in the layerstack , and not to all frames not always but sometimes the other frames are screwed up (i.e with gaussian blur i had 40% frames blurred but the other instead then blurred were heavily pixelated on the hightlights) Even more puzzling for me some filters i.e gaussian blur sometimes works as should, sometimes not and that on similar groups of frames more detail here http://www.gimptalk.com/forum/filter-all-layers-not-working--p258098.html Another but much less relevant problem is with split imagine into frames, with gimp 2.6 to be displayed is not the first but the last frame May be other problems, since Apply filter on frames is essential to my workflow i didn't check further PS my pc is a dual core, with xp fully updated and 2gb ram i had no problems with a much less performing notebook but with gimp 2.6 --- About solutions first i will like to be sure that Filter all layer-variyng and Frame modify-apply filter-variyng work both correctly on linux, and same for split imagine in frames If i may be certain that is a problem only of the windows version i may search help to recompile against gimp 2.6.. but first...someone may check on linux, please? better on big imagines with many frames where this problem show up more often. ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user
[Gimp-user] Windows 2.6.2 installer problem
Alex Wrote (1) One thing caught my attention in it: = (gimp-2.6.exe:4928): Gtk-WARNING **: Could not find the icon 'gtk-file'. The 'hicolor' theme was not found either, perhaps you need to install it. You can get a copy from: http://icon-theme.freedesktop.org/releases I may be wrong , i believe that related to Mathmap plugin and not to the gimp installer That because i get that exact warning from the MM console last time i used, and i noticed immediately because was something new And then i notice also a weird problem but only in mathmap, i could not expand the bottom expression folder to run the script i wish. No problem for the other folders If so, but again i may be wrong, i may guess the reason, I installed a stardock utility called Mycolors to change xp theme and icon, i never notice any problem till i had to use mathmap... I'm sure that message never come out before the change of theme and icon i use very often MM and i will have noticed . Obviously MM may be not the only gimp plugin vulnerable, and myColors not the only utility that may create similar problems... but will like to know if somebody may confirm the relation between that message and tweaking to the Windows look ,in particular to change of theme and icon Unisciti alla community di Io fotografo e video, il nuovo corso di fotografia di Gazzetta dello sport: http://www.flickr.com/groups/iofotografoevideo ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user
[Gimp-user] R: how to add new fonts?
Hello. i am under the impression that any font in window$ must be detected by GIMP text tool. unfortunately, it is not happening so. is there any specific method to add the fonts to gimp? if so how? i m still using GIMP 2.4 , yet to upgrade :D thanks, Akshay Is a wrong impression Gimp may use most (maybe all) of fonts included in windows as default, less of the Extra Fonts that you may found on the net .. To install new fonts in Gimp you may simply install them as font in windows If some fonts do not show up you may try to copy them , paste in a new folder, and from Gimp ,exactly from Edit/preferences/font add a path to that new font folder and then reload gimp That often help, if doesn't usually fonts are incompatible (the fact that some other programs may use them here is not relevant except if you want use that fonts with that other program ) Unisciti alla community di Io fotografo e video, il nuovo corso di fotografia di Gazzetta dello sport: http://www.flickr.com/groups/iofotografoevideo ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user

[Gimp-user] strange workaround for slow GIMP start (WinXP)
is normal for new gimp install hanging on when loading fonts the first time gimp you run gimp, after a new install is expected be very slow when loading fonts that because the first time it will create its own font cache, and that will allow other times to be much quicker to load So i doubt that gimp may load quicker thank to other gtk software installed, i believe that now load quicker because the first time had to slowly index all the fonts, and then the following times it load quicker because that long task is not more needed As side note inthe hipotetical case Gimp will froze again when loading fonts that may mean that font cache get somehow corrupted , to solve you should simply delete it and reload gimp again will be very slow because will recreate the cache, and again the following times will be much quicker After a system reinstall (HDD change) on my HP nc8230 notebook, GIMP was starting painfully slow, almost bloking itself at Fonts-something startup splash screen. This was something new for me, as in the previous WinXP system install GIMP started almost immediately. Searching a bit I noticed that this happens to be a common issue on many Windows systems, where some have mentioned something about GTK+. This pointed me to the question - what was different in my previous system install related to GTK+ ? Answer - two more GTK+ applications (except for Sylpheed, which does not matter for the subject), Pidgin and GPA. So I installed Pidgin (2.4.2), et voil?, GIMP now starts immediately ! [Gimp-user] Opening Pictures with Gimp
the reply of Buralex should be clear. I will add that what you wish ,was a default in old gimp, and that default changed because created troubles to most users. If you chose it not only you have to wait gimp loading before see any image but as Alex explained you will open a new gimp for each image you want open (that may solve as suggested by Alex but require some fiddling) More once established a file association with gimp, that is ,or maybe was ,quite hard to break (to break most used trick was install irfanview, since other method for some reason didn't work). This may be changed in the new gimp 2.4 was a issue on windows version 2.0 and 2.2, but anyway if you really want associate some file to gimp , to be on the safe side i will advice to do right clicking on the file as explained in my previous message..that may be reverted easily and do not require unistall and reinstall of gimp Alchemie Foto\grafiche - Scopri il Blog di Yahoo! Rafael i'm almost sure you will win, i was a expert of traditional photo collage and manipulation (as in darkroom ) and at that time, if i wished i could bypass most of detection method But time pass by...Now i do photo collage with computer but for only artistic purpose and so i never had reason to study how to fake detection techniques Neverthless i wonder how you can see anything wrong if 1 i do a good collage taking care of shadow , proportion and prospective 2 i print a high quality gigantography of my computer photo-collage 3 In a studio with diffuse light i make with my camera a photo of the Gigantography , taking care to get a very subtle out-focus (or just smearing the lens with a tiny veil of something as vaseline I don't know much about EXIF data,(i don't even know if they report as default exposition time ,diaframma opening time and focal used, if so could be needed to have them coherent with the kind of image) but i'm confident you will find Exif data from a real camera - Will be quite a lot of work and i can't see any reason to do it (well at least if nobody is going to pay few thousands Euro in cash to get a image of Hilary Clinton having fun with a almost naked young black guy, or something alike) So my curiosity is only academic...still i'm a bit curious Alchemie Foto\grafiche - - L'email della prossima generazione? Re: [Gimp-user] Gimp remove
Your files are unchaged you can open them with any graphic tool, or browse them with any good viewer (that is not MS fax and images viewer but free tool as xnview , irfanview or fastone image viewer, all free and with no ads) Back to the problem , what changed is only the icon associated to your file, you must be tricked during the install, to associate files to Gimp ( that in windows usually is not a very good idea). In theory must be sufficent right click on every kind of file(jpg, png and so on) and from the drop down menu to (re)associate them to ...whatever you like use to browse or open them as default. But ,in windows in the practice this seldom works , what it works usually is install something as irfanview (www.irfanview.com) and associate to him all graphic files That will break the gimp file association and once done you can even unistall irfanview ( but no much reason to unistall, work much better then the fax and image viewer and can perform on the fly most of the editing needed as resize, crop, correct saturation, contrast , gamma, hue, apply effect or even PS filter...and organize resize convert in other format even in batch mode). -- - PS for the developers...i hope the windows installer of next gimp 2.4 will NOT offer a options to associated files to gimp. That option is usually misunderstood by users, bring them only troubles and not advantages and make them even a little paranoid (they believe that something is changed in their files , since the icon is changed). its also unneeded as option...if some Windows user for some weird reason want associate some kind of graphic file to Gimp it has just to right click on the file to do it. If not when prompted to associate graphic files to gimp most of new users will just give a random answer,(usually yes ), withouth really be aware of the consequences ( no so terrible but disturbing...any time you double click on a jpg to open in hurry ... you must wait to gimp to load..) At least will be better move that preference from the install dialogue to the preference menu, that is the most obvious place for preferences Alchemie Foto\grafiche - - L'email della prossima generazione?
