Somehow the setting
operating systems, but XP is
installed. If you ever want to go to upgrade to Vista the DVD is
included (or maybe it's on a Hard Drive partition.)
I would tell them about this and try to insist that you want XP
installed. It might not work, but it's worth a try.

I agree with all Jim's advice, if you are still using W98, the jump to XP
will
be no different to the jump to Vista so go for Vista, you will love it
compared
to W98
format - like .mp3, or .wma, it can be burned as an audio file and
copied to any audio device. But if it's in a proprietary format like
Audible.com's books (I think they use a .aa file extension), you might
not be able to burn it.

OK, so I did that and I disabled the Yahoo search protection. So ... now I
have a question. With all those startup thingies, I don't know what they are.
Could some of them be unnecessary and possibly slow up my computer
that helps,

sure they're there, it's a very common fix for
the players. I've had to reformat all my players at least once in their
lifetimes.
Once you get it reformatted just copy all your music back onto it and
hopefully you'll be good to go.
