Hi Ian,
I have run Protel 99SE sp6 on my laptop on Win XP Pro. No problems so far..
Most of the machines we have that run Protel are running Win 2K Pro.
Both operating systems seem to be ok with Protel 99SE sp6 as far as I know.

company very well. Some folks need the capabilities that are not available
in Protel and can afford to buy them. For the rest of us, there is Protel.

2nd Best... would be Cadence. The features are similar but the user
interface is 10 years behind. Similar cost, similar time to get up and
running... similar maintenance...similar modularity.

I'm sure they were former auto salesmen ... 'oh, you want brakes with it...
well that's the diamond option, and a steering wheel? Well you need the
platinum option...' etc... etc..

If Mentor was cheaper Protel would not have a chance. Hang in there Protel
and get the product working before sending it out. And... listen to your
customers...

I believe Altium/Protel has lost its 'common sense'... or maybe PCB designer

Yes I do get the option of assigning pins based upon the layout... but its
frustrating and a manual process without Pin/Gate swap features in the
Protel Software.

I have used 14/24 successfully without any manufacturing price/yield issues.
When you go below that threshold the price starts to climb.
