Anyway, the popup continues to re-appear about every 20-30 seconds regardless of how it's disposed of; either clicking OK or clicking the red X. I assume it's almost certainly coming from my Comodo anti-virus but I'm not positive about that. I suppose it could be coming from TB!. Forward formatting
Greetings Bats!, We get email notification of most of our utility bills which are mailed to my wife's email address. I have a filter on her laptop machine which automatically forwards all these notifications to my desktop computer. This works just fine for all notifications except one which comes to her nicely formatted in the form of a table containing the information. Unfortunately, the forward which I receive on my desktop is no longer formatted as she received it. I receive the forward from her as simply text, no formatting (no table). As a consequence it's difficult to match the information to the column headers because the information is no longer in table form. Display properties
Greetings Bats, Having updated to v5.0.8 I noticed the following display anomalies. You'll notice in the clipboard display here: http://clip2net.com/s/U5Ej that the SERVER, MESSAGE, TRANSFER and TIME lines text is missing what I surmise to be about one or two pixels at the bottom of each line. While annoying, the text is still readable and I was grudgingly content to just let it go. However, I wanted to check the properties on my Trash folder and was dismayed to find this: http://clip2net.com/s/U5CQ, a slightly more serious problem. Has anyone else seen these display problems in their 5.0.8 programs? Is there some adjustment somewhere I can tweak to make the problem go away? Group forward
Greetings All, I just had a curious thing happen which may be indicative of a bug, or un-documented feature as some coders are wont to say. I CTRL-clicked several email messages in my inbox and then picked one and right-clicked to show the drop-down menu. From there I clicked on FORWARD and was presented with the familiar FORWARD OF MULTIPLE MESSAGES dialog box. I then clicked on the ADDRESS ALL MESSAGES TO THE ADDRESS(ES) BELOW and entered two addresses. I then clicked on OK. My recollection of the last time I did this (before v5.0.99) was that TB! would immediately send the messages. I remember being able to watch the messages appear in the outbox and then disappear as they were mailed. This time however, nothing happened except that the FORWARD OF MULTIPLE MESSAGES dialog box disappeared as you would expect. No messages appeared in the outbox and no messages appeared in the SENT MAIL folder indicating that they weren't sent. Also the connection center never appeared. I had one message already in the outbox and it remained so until I clicked on SEND QUEUED MAIL at which point THAT message WAS sent. I'm assuming the other messages were in fact not sent although I haven't contacted the recipients to confirm. Thoughts? Observations? Critiques? -- TIA, Jack LaRosa Using The Bat! ver: 5.0.8. Re: TB 5.0 could be a Guinness world record holder
Greetings, Well, I'm one of those fools that upgrades software JUST BECAUSE AN UPGRADE IS MADE AVAILABLE. Usually this doesn't cause a problem but as I reported earlier, my screen display when showing folder properties in v5 is corrupted. I was willing to live with it because I so seldom do anything with folder properties but after seeing all the problems others are having w/v5, I began to wonder what other problems exist for me that I simply hadn't run across yet. So, I decided to revert to the most recent version I had kept, v4.2.44. I double-clicked the .msi file and went through the motions for installing TB! and was subsequently informed that it had installed. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that nothing had changed! The splash screen still shows I'm running v5.0.8 and HELPABOUT still shows v5.0.8. I re-installed v4.2.44 a second time and still no change. Can't remove v5
Greetings Bat People, Like many others on the list, I too feel the need to revert to an earlier version. I've learned from the list that you can't just reinstall an earlier version but have to remove v5 first. Unfortunately, I can't delete version 5. I've used Windows Add and Remove Programs and when that didn't work, used the Revo uninstaller. Admittedly I did not run Revo balls to the wall, full on because at one point in the removal process it showed that it was going to remove a whole bunch of stuff (like my custom .wav files) that I didn't want removed. I declined that part of it. I did do a backup of v5 before attempting to remove it in the hopes that if everything crashed and burned, I might be able to get myself back to a working program even if it was still v5. What exactly does a backup contain? Would the .wav files be in there? Will a previous version (should I ever be able to load one) be able to use a backup made by v5? Revo is pretty thorough and I'm terrified that I'm going to lose all my messages and more if I allow it to run full bore. I would really like to revert to v4.2.44 but have no idea what I'm doing wrong or if I'm worrying about things that will be ok if I do successfully revert at some point. -- TIA, Jack LaRosa Using The Bat! ver: 5.0.8. The thought that my registry was just filling up with now useless entries was more than I could tolerate. Fonts
Greetings Batties, Once again I have changed something (in this case a font) and don't remember how/where I did it. I've spent the last hour looking for where this change was made in the hopes I wouldn't have to bother the list again but... alas, I can't find it. Just for clarification, the Window Split mode I'm using is Full-Width Preview pane which looks like this: - | | | | | | | | | | A | B | | | | | | | - | | | | | | | C | | | | | - Where A is the account tree, B is the list of emails contained in whichever account folder is selected in the account tree and C is the contents of whichever email is selected. The font in C is the one in question and as I compose this email I see that it's also the font being used in this New Message. I have been through Account Properties, Folder Properties and OptionsPreferences without success. Even though Account Properties and Folder properties both have an option to change the font on New Message, making a change from the apparent default Courier New, has no effect and when you look at it again, it's back to Courier New as though you never changed it. I'm not even sure that this font being used now is actually Courier New. Any help will of course be greatly appreciated. -- TIA, Jack LaRosa Using The Bat! ver: 4.2.44.2. However, if I change the reply addressee to msn...@gmail.com the e-mail message will travel smoothly to its destination. I don't see any difference in the two addresses. Am I missing something? I can confirm issues in this vein, although they're not too frequent for me, fortunately. Sometimes it does happen that a message will bounce if it's rather elaborately addressed in the TO field. But when you re-send the same message using only the recipient's email address and nothing else in the TO field, then the message will go through successfully. I suppose there are 3 ways the above address could appear in the TO field in the email's headers: To: Mortimer Snerd msn...@gmail.com To: Mortimer Snerd msn...@gmail.com To: msn...@gmail.com Only the last option of these 3 is *really* safe to go through. Some folks are crazy and put all sorts of things in their Reply-to field that don't really belong there, which then results in addresses such as: Dr. Johnny Lately - Your Trustworthy Physician lat...@grave.com Now when you attempt to reply to an address like that, The Bat! displays it as follows in the TO field in the Editor window: \Dr. Johnny Lately - Your Trustworthy Physician\ lat...@grave.com Lots of ugly escape characters to look at; such things should be hidden from the user's eye. And, that's nothing compared to the goulash that actually gets sent in the email's header, where the above might look something like this: To: =?utf-8?Q?=22Dr. Johnny Lately - Your Trustworthy Physician=22?= lat...@grave.com If you think *that's* messy, just write to someone whose name contains a diacritic letter... *then* things start getting *really* messy, and the TO filed in the email's headers becomes next to impossible to parse with human eye. Under such circumstances, I'm not surprised some messages containing headers like that get falsely labelled as spam. To avoid these problems, you might want to use only the recipient's address, and nothing else, in the TO field; I sometimes manually delete everything else that's in there, to make sure the message goes through without any delivery problems. Looking at the insides of my C:\Program Files\The Bat! folder I have a folder called C:\Program Files\The Bat!\Images which contains a lot of smileys but only one flag: Flag-Netherlands.jpg. However, if I go deeper and open C:\Program Files\The Bat!\Images\pcwimages, I find more smileys and a whole bunch of flags. Why the smileys should be in two separate folders is a mystery to me. Although I have no recollection of manipulating these folders in any way, I have no idea if this is the way these folders and files are supposed to be arranged within my C:\Program Files\The Bat! folder. M It may be due to extracting some ZIP file(s) in the wrong place in the M past. (Selecting, or not, the 'Use folder names' option if using WinZIP M to extract). M The C:\Program Files\The Bat!\Images folder should *ONLY* contain three M folders and three *.msl files, namely: M Default M pcwimages M rogues M default.msl M pcwsmileys.msl M rogues.msl M If you do not have any of the msl files, look in the corresponding M folder and see if it is there. I was missing the pcwsmileys.msl file which I found elsewhere (obviously not where it was supposed to be) and copied it to my C:\Program Files\The Bat!\Images folder. NOW when I revisit one of Lynn's previous emails I can see her animated .gif of the American flag and her non-animated .gif of the Canadian flag. However, her Rougemoticon (:Hawthorne:), which is also in her sig, doesn't display her picture. But I think that needs to be in her X-Rogue header as mine is in order to display her picture elsewhere onscreen (not in the sig.) In order to stave off any confusion, my picture has not been changed even though I submitted a new picture and was notified that it had been approved. The latest rogues.zip file still contains the old photo. In addition, my picture no longer displays (as it once did) when I look at a message I've sent to the list. Ah, the joys of TB! Thanks Miguel. The following link goes to a screenshot of that window so you can see what's selected: http://clip2net.com/s/1YT0n. If you're not familiar with clip2net, it's a free program which allows you to select any part of your screen and post it to the web (their server I presume) and gives you a link to allow others to see that portion of your screen that you've posted. Forward vs redirect
Greetings, I recently received a suspicious email from one of my credit card accounts and was instructed by the credit card company to *forward* the suspicious email to their fraud address. That got me to wondering; what's the difference between forwarding and redirecting? I realize that a redirect does not contain any of the forwarding verbiage but is that the only difference? Does the recipient of a redirected email then believe that the email was sent to them originally since there was no text indicating that it was in fact received by someone else first? Non-viewable pictures
Greetings All, A friend sent me an email which was supposed to contain a bunch of pictures, none of which showed up when viewing the email in the VIEW→WINDOW SPLIT MODE→FULL-WIDTH PREVIEW PANE. The left column in this view mode shows the icons for the pictures which were a few GIFs but most were just labeled ATTx~1KB where x was a number from 1 to 15. The KB size was different for each picture, varying from less than 1KB to more than 31KB. The only icons which had extensions were the GIFs (.gif). First line indentation
Greetings and salutations, Whenever I click on the CREATE A NEW MESSAGE down arrow (next to the blank page icon w/quill on it) for a specific person, and only this person, a new message window opens up which contains text defined by a template somewhere as it always has. Lately I see that the first line of the text, Hi is indented a few spaces. It seems that the (partially) defining template is the one in the ADB as I can change what the template says, e.g. Hi to Hello but I can't change the font or character size from this ADB template. Your messages probably had to pass through three or more such filters. SMN This is very true - but if an anti-spam filter reject messages based SMN on the fact that the word PayPal is present in subject is a stupid SMN anti-spam-filter. I mean, apparently it's stupid to you and me... but SMN it is also *professionally stupid* - one would think a professional SMN company had a better system running than that? SMN The only plausible reason why a filter would block such a message SMN Jack is talking about is if one Redirect / Delegate a message that was SMN originally sent from PayPal. If the text is fully intact AND the anti- SMN spam system found it to be suspicious (looks like a phishing attempt) SMN AND the IP the Redirected / Delegated message is now coming from is not SMN in the IP-range PayPal is using to send mail, THEN one could expect a SMN system to look at it with a suspicious mind and to consider it to be a SMN possible phishing attempt. But blocking a message just because PayPal SMN is present in Subject is just stupid. Also it doesn't seem to be the case. After I responded to Geoff's message I sent myself a message with PayPal in the subject line and it went through just fine. Admittedly, the message body consisted simply of a salutation and sig. It may be that a message with PayPal in the subject line AND a fair amount of text in the body *might* trigger a block.
